Vintage Art Deco 1933 “Bizarre” Clarice Cliff Newport Pottery “Crocus” Pattern 17cm Side Plate – 0000493
A classic and very collectable design by Clarice Cliff, the Crocus pattern is one of the most recognisable and desirable designs. Introduced circa 1928, this vibrantly hand-painted designed has been copied, forged and reproduced by many other designers over the last 80 years. This plate is however, a original from 1933 with the four identifying backstamps: “Crocus” – “Bizarre” by Clarice Cliff, Royal Staffordshire, “Honey-Glaze” and the impressed date mark of “33″ for 1933.
This gorgeous 17cm (approx.) side plate is hard to find and is part of the Tea for Two Crocus trio. Overall the condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or restoration work. The colours are bright and clear. There are some scratches to the brown centre and minimal flecks missing on the crocuses.
A superb Art Deco stand-alone piece or addition to your Clarice Cliff collection! Lovely.
