  • Vintage & Rare c.1920′s – 1930′s Silver-Plated “Wembley Lion” Motif Souvenir Blue & Black Enamelled Egg Cup – 0000404

    Vintage & Rare c.1920′s – 1930′s Silver-Plated “Wembley Lion” Motif Souvenir Blue & Black Enamelled Egg Cup – 0000404

This is one for the vintage Wembley memorabilia fan or the completist egg cup collector!  This lovely silver-plated souvenir egg cup is from the original, now demolished, Wembley Stadium.  Made circa 1924 to the late 1930′s, the egg cup has the trademark art deco stylised “Lion” in a brass-like metal with an enamelled blue and black inlay and the “twin towers”.  The enamel on the “Wembley” script below the lion and towers is damaged in two small parts, but can be restored if necessary.  Possibly made for the “Wembley Exhibition” of 1924, the egg cup is in used but overall very good condition, with minor wear in the form of a couple of tiny creases (repairable) to the lip and some minor wear to the silver-plating in parts. When polished up, it looks gorgeous!

A very rare and collectable piece of original Art Deco Wembley memorabilia!

  • Vintage Solid Sheffield 1966 Sterling Silver Replica of Benwell Silver Spoon – 0000176

Vintage Solid Sheffield 1966 Sterling Silver Replica of Benwell Silver Spoon – 0000176

This lovely solid sterling silver spoon is an exact replica of a Roman silver spoon found at Benwell in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1926 – the only difference being is that the original bowl was broken and this is complete.

The original spoon is one of the largest Roman spoons found in the United Kingdom and was special because the Benwell spoon had an oval bowl and a square handle with square moulded decorations and a rectangular panel.  Made in 1966 and clearly hallmarked with the Sheffield Crown, Lion and date letter “X” dating it to 1966.  The makers mark of H.F (or P) & Co is also present which is possibly H. Fisher & Co Sheffield – Please see photos.

The spoon comes in its original Reid & Sons Ltd Goldsmiths & Silversmiths, Newcastle-upon-Tyne presentation box with a label on the lid that state “WIth the Compliments of A. E. I Cables, May 1966, Birtley”, original explanatory paperwork and a small card with an illustration of the spoons design.

The spoon weighs between 16g and 17g and measures 11cm long by 2.5cm at widest points on bowl (approx)

A lovely solid silver replica of a design that is over 1700 years old! Beautiful!
