This lovely and quite rare (I have been unable to find another one like it) biscuit barrel is part of the highly sought-after hand-painted “Bizarre” range by Clarice Cliff.
Made in the early 1930′s and with its vibrantly coloured and gorgeously hand-painted and moulded floral handle-ends, this fabulous biscuit barrel is typical of its period.
This very collectable biscuit barrel is in overall good condition for its age with bright colours, minimal crazing and no restoration work.
There is however some damage, with a chip to the rim and two hairlines (one small and the other runs from the rim down). The lid and handle are missing (which is not uncommon and quite possibly replaceable) and there is some minor paint-loss here and there – Please see photos.
Clearly marked underneath with “Hand-Painted Bizarre by Clarice Cliff”, “Newport Pottery England” backstamps, this biscuit barrel measures approximately 10.5cm high by 16cm handle tip to handle tip. This would make a great piece for display but not for daily use.
A rare piece of “Bizarre” that would be a great addition to any rare or Art Deco Clarice Cliff collection.
