A General Guidance Time-Line for Easy Dating/Identification of 19th & 20th Century Items
This time-line chart is something I have put together over time and helps, in most cases, to determine the date of an item like ceramics, pottery and other bits you may find. It was created by looking at the relevant legislation over the turn of the century and by trawling through the internet for bits of information.
Its essentially a flow chart of a lot of text that is hard to remember when on the move. I use it when I am out and about at fairs and when I am hunting for vintage bits and pieces. I have also included a couple of my favourite and well known makers key dates, that I think are useful.
There are always exceptions to the rule and although this doesn’t work for everything, it is a very useful guide and is great as a starting place!
Give it a go!
