A VERY BRIEF HISTORY of Joseph Szeiler and Studio Szeiler…..
The founder, Joseph Szeiler was born in Hungary in 1924 and aspired to be come a veterinary surgeon.
After studying for two and a half years, he gave up his course due to the political complications in his country and left Budapest for England in 1948. Intending to become a coal miner, local circumstances in the industry forced Joseph Szeiler into unemployment. After a few months, he started work as a moulder for The Eagle Pottery in Hanley, Staffordshire, for J & G Meakin and after a further few firm placements he attended the Burslem School of Art. Recognised for his creative talents, he then worked as a faience maker for Richards Tiles Ltd before he set up working in his live/work studio in Hanley, where he made his uniquely and beautifully moulded animals figures.
From these humble beginnings, Joseph Szeiler expanded his works and the Studio Szeiler legacy began and carried on successfully until his death in 1986.
Still loved and collected today, with his works becoming more collectable year after year!
