This superb and very collectable early Susie Cooper designed Paris shaped Jug is in suberb condition for its age.
Dating from circa 1928 to 1931, this lovely jug is hand-painted in the very sought after “Cubist” pattern and is totally free from any chips, cracks, crazing or restoration work. There is some speckling to the underglaze on the inside (a factory fault).
The hand-painted pattern is in near excellent condition with good bright colours, except for some wear to the blue on the footing. Nevertheless a stunning piece which could have some professional restoration work to bring it up to A1 standard. Please see photos.
This gorgeous jug measures approximately 12cm high by 15cm from spout to handle. This is the larger size of the Paris jugs made at the time. A real treat!
Clearly marked with the H4 Second Galleon mark and the words “Gray’s Pottery, Hanley England”, the pattern number of 8071 and the paintress mark “D”. There is also a second underglaze white ware stamp for “A Lancaster and Sons Ltd, Hanley England”.
A very sought-after design in a rare form and in superb undamaged condition. A must for the Art Deco Susie Cooper collector!
