Vintage Art Deco 1930’s-1940s Crown Devon Dove Grey and Hand-Painted Floral Patterned Fruit Salad Bowl.
The Art Deco period is definitely my favourite era for art, design and architecture! I love Art Deco pottery and furniture! The sleek lines, simple designs and fantastic use of colour and geometric shapes.
Crown Devon is a fantastic pottery works! With many influential and sought-after designs collected and loved by many collectors all over the world, some fetching considerable prices at antiques and collectables auctions. I particularly love this design. Quite rare, I actually haven’t seen one quite like it, and very simple. It has a lovely and vibrant hand painted floral spray in greens and oranges over a dove mottled grey background, that looks very reminiscent of the Ancient Egyptian influences very prominent in the period. Think of the water Lilly often depicted in Ancient Egyptian artworks.
Although the back-stamp is not clear or complete, this particular back-stamp dates this bowl from circa 1939 to the late 1940’s approximately, and wow, does this bowl look amazing for its age! No chips, crack or restoration work. None of the typical crazing to the glaze and almost no signs of use. There is the tiniest of flecks of paint missing from the orange in the circular flower on one side, but nothing that would be noticeable unless you closely inspected it. The lovely green edged rim is totally complete and undamaged.
This stunning Art Deco bowl measures approximately 18.5cm in diameter (at the widest point) and approximately 9cm high.
A fantastic Art Deco centrepiece that’s both gorgeous and practical! Display with your favourite fruit or put in a cabinet and admire it for years to come!
Its definitely peerfect for brightening any dull sideboard, and timeless in design! Great in the vintage or contemporary home!
