Vintage Art Deco Geometric Ebonised Dark Wood Desk Clock Inkwell Pen Desk Stand
I’m a little bit of a horologist and so my house is dotted with all forms of clocks and timepieces. Some work and some don’t, but its the variations in style and design that appeals to me the most!
This is a lovely little find! Dating possibly from around 1920 to 1940, this desk stand is beautifully made from an ebonised dark coloured wood with smooth Art Deco curves and lovely straight lines. Two geometric blocks are stood side by side, with the clock slightly off. The inkwell has a beautifully hinged lid and still retains its original sleeves.
There a couple of small dimple/holes to the front of the inkwell, which may of had a name plate, and there is a small hole to the stand behind the ink stand, which may of housed another pen stand, but unfortunately, it is missing. Both don’t adversely affect the overall look or functionality and could possibly be easily restored, if necessary.
The desk stand is in overall good condition with some natural rubbing along the edges of the wood; mainly where the pen rests. The clock winds up and works, but will most likely need a service. It has run a little fast in the time I’ve observed it, but it ticks very nicely. The machined clock face is beautiful but has seen better days; there is a fine circular scratch caused by the minute hand coming into contact with the face, which is most visible from 7 o’clock to 3 o’clock. The only other thing to note is that the chrome edging around the square face has some pitting and wear, but this only adds to the character and patina of the stand.
There are no makers marks or stamps, so who made it is not known. The base measures approximately 22cm by 10.5cm by 2.5cm. The overall height of the stand is approximately 10cm high.
Would make a great gift or addition to any collection. Looks lovely on display!
